CMT KIDS WEEKEND

OFFICIAL PROMO - OCT 2012

The Young People's Weekend was started in 1992, when we decided to take a small party of children with CMT to Centre Parcs in Sherwood Forest for the weekend.

A grant was forthcoming from BBC Children in Need and a small number of children with CMT, together with a friend or sibling if they wanted, spent a fantastic weekend meeting other kids with CMT.

Since then, we've tried to do a similar weekend every other year to start with and every year for the last 3 years. We've been to Butlins at Skegness; the Bendrigg Trust Centre in Kendal, Cumbria; and latterly the Calvert Trust Centre on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, near Keswick in the Lake District.

Latterly, the focus has been more on activity weekends - allowing kids of between 11 and 18 the chance to experience rock climbing, abseiling, zip wire, archery, canoeing and other equally scary pursuits! Both the Calvert Trust Centres and The Bendrigg Trust are centres specifically catering to disabled clients, so they have specialist knowledge and training to ensure that the weekends are a complete success.

Hi there,

My name is Andy Watson and I am a documentary film maker from Peterborough. I currently work in television and I have over 15 years experience working with cameras & post production equipment in film and television production.

My girlfriend is affected by a hereditary disease called Charcot Marie Tooth, or CMT for short. The illness affects tens of thousands of people across the globe yet few are aware of this life long illness.

For the past several years as my partners health has gotten worse, I've been researching on the web in regards to Charcot Marie Tooth disease and why such an illness tends to be "swept under the carpet" just because it is not life threatening.

With my skills in video & film, I've decided to make a movie about this illness to help more people understand about this illness.

ABOUT US

LATEST NEWS

I have been receiving a lot of emails since launching this website and this is really good news. It means that this is a documentary that needs making and publishing to as many media outlets as possible. Over the next few weeks, I will be planning and outlining my second attempt at crowd funding through the Kickstarter platform.

If there is anything you believe should be included in the project, please email me or comment below and I'll take your comments on board and hopefully make the right decision that could increase the chance of a successful crowd fund.
